Map4life is an event which aims to create career paths and demonstrate opportunities that the spatial and mapping industry provides for people of all abilities and capabilities.
Our Mission
Map4life is a community project, which aims to provide career opportunities and show people with a physical disability, such as a spinal cord injury, what options there are within the spatial and mapping industry.
The Map4life project is an event that will discuss and exhibit what career options there are, the study pathways available and the benefits of them which will be demonstrated and spoken about by professionals in this industry. Our sponsors and supporters will create short presentations and demonstrations on what they have developed as a career as a result of studying and practicing in the spatial and mapping industry.
Further to the event, we are seeking businesses within the industry to offer a day ( or more) or work experience to further expand peoples understanding of what is possible. If you are a business willing, we plan to offer a day of work experience to anyone who attends. If you are a business in the spatial industry that sees themselves as providing opportunities to people, please send us a note of where your business is based and when you can offer a day – Map4Life will connect people to businesses – connect now to provide someone the opportunity of a life time!
Not in Melbourne? – send us a message and let us know where you are – we will be running Map4Life in a regional Victorian location before the end of 2014.
With so much data now being produced in digital formats anyone with computer skills and analytical capability can process and produce information such as 3D models, satellite images, climate change data and demographic and business information. All of these data sets play an active role in every person’s life within our now technologically advanced society; be it Google maps for finding a way to a restaurant, through to businesses who map where their products are selling best and why. Helping to define the habitat of an endangered species and communicating this in a “map based” form provides an amazing way to inform the community of where the impact really is. The opportunity in the Map4Life event is to guide and direct people to this possibility and career opportunity.
David Bruce, the founder of Map4life, was provided with a great opportunity to study surveying and mapping and this has provided him with a great foundation for a varied and long standing career.
What We've Achieved so far:
- Industry recognition by well-known spatial and data management companies within Australia.
- The beginnings of a large following on social media.
